A passenger was taken off a cruise ship carrying 915 passengers and crew members from the United States and Britain. The ship had just returned from a trip to the Caribbean Sea. It was heading for Panama Canal. An 82-year-old man was found on board, and the Coast Guard evacuated him to an area hospital. Others who sustained injuries were also taken to the local hospitals.

In a separate incident, a Carnival Glory cruise ship was 86 miles southeast of Southwest Pass when a 62-year-old man who was suffering from internal bleeding symptoms was airlifted to New Orleans. He received medical attention at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, and is now listed as stable.

Carnival Fantasy, another cruise ship sailing to the Caribbean reported a missing passenger on Thanksgiving night. One crew member saw the man floating in the water. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter arrived at Elizabeth City to lift the passenger onto the helicopter. The woman was then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida.

The Coast Guard also evacuated a woman, who was reported to be seriously ill, from the luxury liner Independence of the Seas. The wheelchair-bound passenger was evacuated. She was in critical condition when she was flown to Portland Coastguard, Oregon.

Yesterday was another significant incident. The MSC Grandiosa, an elite cruise liner, was about 20 nautical miles offshore of Sant'Antico in southwest Sardinia. Captain of the vessel called the U.S. Coast Guard and requested medevac. It was the fifth occasion in five year that engine trouble had prompted an evacuation.

As of Sunday afternoon, the cruise ship is expected to dock safely in the Norwegian town of Molde. However, it remains to be seen whether it will be able to proceed to its destination or not. The weather conditions remain extremely stormy.

HM Coastguard search &rescue helicopters were positioned approximately 30 nautical miles from Plymouth, England. Rescue efforts are ongoing. The Norwegian Red Cross volunteers assisted the rescue efforts. Approximately 60 volunteers from the organization are involved in the rescue effort.

Viking Sky, the luxury cruise liner, issued a mayday sign to stop it from drifting towards shore. According to its captain, the ship was experiencing engine problems. The vessel made a mayday call for its crew and passengers as the weather worsened. Most of the ship’s passengers were in the water by time the search started.

The Norwegian cruise liner Emerald Princess also experienced engine problems and was diverted into a Norwegian port. The helicopter was used to evacuate the crew and passengers from the ship after the engine problem. Although it wasn't immediately clear how many passengers were aboard, crew requested medevac. Other vessels also assisted in the rescue.

Numerous accidents and injuries have occurred on cruise ships, including the escape of a couple from the Oasis at the Seas in Bahamas. These accidents highlight how important it is for cruise ships to have procedures in place to recover passengers who are lost. The situation may become difficult to trace if a passenger doesn't return to the ship within hours. Anyone who survives the fall will face severe legal consequences.
